Accessible Kenyan Sign Language Video Storybooks

Studio KSL is an eKitabu innovation that develops accessible digital teaching and learning materials in Kenyan Sign Language (KSL) to close the gap in lack of accessible content for deaf and hard of hearing learners who have their first exposure to sign language when they start school. Since 2018, eKitabu has delivered over 337 sign language videos and storybooks in 6 African sign languages. The content we have developed in Studio KSL have reached about 3,500 learners in schools and attracted over 12M+ viewers to date on Akili Kids TV according to independent reporting by GeoPoll. The content created by Studio KSL and packaged as Digital StoryTime is designed to support language acquisition and build communication skills, laying the foundation for literacy.

The founding of Studio KSL was made possible through the generous support of All Children Reading: A Grand Challenge for Development (ACR GCD) Partners (the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), World Vision, and the Australian Government). It was prepared by eKitabu, LLC and does not necessarily reflect the views of the ACR GCD Partners.
