This month, Studio KSL, eKitabu's innovation dedicated to making learning more accessible for Deaf children, was featured on EdTech Mondays Kenya, a monthly television programme on NTV Kenya that showcases transformative education technologies and innovations.The episode explored a critical challenge in Deaf education: while language is the foundation of learning, many Deaf children in Kenya begin school without access to Kenyan Sign Language (KSL). This language gap can significantly affect literacy, communication, and academic success.Through Digital StoryTime, Studio KSL is helping bridge this gap by providing interactive storybooks that combine Kenyan Sign Language videos, English captions, narration, illustrations, and comprehension activities.

Since its inception in 2018, the initiative has developed more than 350 sign language storybooks across six African sign languages, reaching thousands of learners through schools, television, and digital platforms.The feature also highlighted the importance of creating sign language-rich learning environments, supporting teachers through Deaf-aware training, engaging families in children's language development, and strengthening partnerships that advance inclusive education.As eKitabu continues to champion accessible learning, Studio KSL demonstrates how thoughtful innovation can remove barriers and ensure that every Deaf child has the opportunity to learn, communicate, and thrive.
