It is located in Njathaini, Bustani Estate off Kiambu Road, a rural setting 20 km north of Nairobi, in Roysambu Zone, Kasarani Division, Kasarani District in Nairobi County. The 55 acres of land on which the Starehe Girls’ Centre stands belonged to Mr. Duncan Gray and Mrs. Jane Auld Gray. They leased the land to Limuru Girls’ Centre which was opened in May 1982 under the Trusteeship of Dr. M. P. Chandaria, Mr. Eliud N. Njoroge and others. This Centre closed in 2002. From the year 2008 to 2012, 95 percent of graduates gained admission in various Universities, 3% joined diplomas courses which will lead to degrees and two percent opted to work. The founders of SGC set out not merely to provide food, clothing and protection to girls in need, but to restore in them the self-confidence and self-respect so often injured by earlier misfortune in life and finally to provide them with sound enough education to serve them well in today’s competitive world.VisionTo establish a national centre of academic excellence for bright but disadvantaged girls incorporating high standards of discipline, responsibility, integrity and service.MissionTo provide a homely, supportive environment within which girls from disadvantaged backgrounds can develop their full potential in academic and personal development.
