In April 2023, Sol Kids Africa held a 2 day Easter festival dubbed family fun weekend during the Easter holiday at the Hub, Karen to nurture a generation of children with and without disabilities who understand, appreciate, and celebrate the privilege of being African through games, painting, picnics, crafts, dancing, shopping, book talks, an easter treasure hunt, storytime, and entertainment performances by kids for kids to raise a reading community.
"It was fulfilling to put together a platform that enabled two days of Impactful engagement with children and families in storytelling, creative arts, dance, play, and fashion during the Easter festival. The memories, learning, and lasting impact gives hope for the next Pan African generation." Melissa Wakhu, CEO, Sol Kids Africa.
The featured collaborators at the Sol Kids event included eKitabu, whose presence ensured the inclusivity of persons with disability by providing sign language interpreters, Text Book Centre, ChezaCheza dance group, Sauti Sol, Decathlon, and Grace Wangari and John Mukeni the Storytellers among others.
“I was impressed that parents braced for the rainy weather to bring their children to have fun with books, stories, games, and music. I also had fulfilling conversations with various partners such as eKitabu, and I look forward to possible future collaborations!” Grace Wangari, Performance Storyteller.

eKitabu Book Talk creates community by enhancing the existing reading culture, and local country teams host book reading sessions where authors connect with an audience that is both special needs and mainstream learners through an online platform or in-person sessions. During the book talk event, eKitabu supports a joint book reading and authors share their journey in writing, and they engage and interact with the audience.
