The Kenya Institute For The Blind (KIB) 50th Anniversary Celebrations was held on Friday 31st May 2019 from 10 am to 3 pm at KIB offices in Nairobi, Kenya. In attendance were Chief Guest Mrs. Kristina Kenyatta Pratt E.B.S, C.BS, Chairperson, National Fund for the Disabled of Kenya, invited guests, partners, parents, teachers, students, among others.The main highlights of the celebrations were to raise funds towards the construction of an Educational Rehabilitation facility to equip learners and trainees who lose their sight while in learning institutions with new skills to enable them to resume and pursue their education as newly blinded persons. KIB will serve learners and trainees across all the 47 counties. The total cost of this project is Kshs 150 Million."The institution, which produces braille reading materials besides providing educational rehabilitation and training for newly blinded people, mark 50 years of service to Kenyans." Said Rueben Mwanzi The Principal of the Institute. The institution provides educational resource materials, assistive devices, and information services to learners and persons with visual impairment. It also provides educational rehabilitation to newly blinded learners and other persons as well as training persons who provided support services to learners with visual impairment.eKitabu has been working closely with KIB to provide accessible digital content for learners who are blind or visually impaired through the Orbit reader project. eKitabu has developed accessible digital materials that provide better access to learning for children with disabilities. For children who are blind or have a vision impairment, the app reads ebooks aloud.
