Dear Friends,As 2020 ends, the eKitabu team wishes you and yours a peaceful end to this year and a rejuvenating new beginning. In 2020, we have been learning how we can make education more inclusive and equitable to meet Africa’s remote learning challenges in the Covid-19 pandemic. We are grateful to everyone who worked and walked with us in 2020, and to the many friends in countries of Africa and outside who helped us deliver accessible digital content for inclusive and quality education. Last week our team voted on what was our most important work in 2020. Here are the highlights. We produced over 38 Digital Story Time video episodes in Studio KSL for Kenya’s EDU Channel TV and YouTube. We received 1,886 online essays in the annual Digital Essay Competition (DEC) from learners in every one of Kenya’s 47 counties. We launched open.eKitabu.com, an open access resource for students, teachers, parents, and caregivers at home. We held our first Family Of the Year Award (FOYA) annual event and awarded the 2020 winners. And with the Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA) we identified and recognized teacher- innovators across Kenya in the 2020 Remote Learning Challenge for their use of ICT in remote teaching and learning. In 2021, we will continue building on these innovations, and we welcome your ideas and feedback on how we can innovate together. I hope you get to enjoy some time—even if distantly—with your most loved ones over the holidays, and I look forward to seeing you in 2021. Kaa salama.Warmest regards,WillRead the entire newsletter here
