In June, eKitabu joined Storymoja Publishers at Aga Khan Primary School in Nairobi County, Lower Kihara Primary School in Kiambu County, and Nyasare Primary School in Migori County to participate in the Storymoja Read Aloud event, setting a new record in reading aloud from the same text at the same time in different venues. About the Storymoja Read Aloud eventThe Storymoja Read Aloud initiative was born in 2013 to promote the reading culture among Kenyans. Through this initiative, Storymoja has been changing the reading culture by motivating children to read for pleasure, become imaginative and creative, and mold their own futures. This is the world’s largest gathering of Kenyan children reading aloud from the same text and at the same time in multiple locations. The event is conducted annually on the International Day of the African Child on June 16th. It is a 30-minute expressive and interesting reading exercise that runs from 8:30 am-9 am on the chosen day, in which children in different schools across the country read the same text at the same time. They are joined in various ways by Reading Ambassadors drawn from a cross-section of society. Read more
