Dear Friends,
Thank you to everyone who joined us on 29th June at Alliance Française Multimedia Library for our Audiobooks launch featuring Goretti Kyomuhendo, Ciku Kimani-Mwaniki, Scholastica Moraa, and Lesalon Kasaine, all self-published authors. Despite the unrest in Nairobi on the day, the event gathered a bustling crowd of book lovers, fans and followers of the authors, happy to celebrate their success.
Goretti's Whispers from Vera is a new edition that brings Vera’s story to life in audio. Ciku’s Cocktail from the Savannah explores the dynamics of polygamous marriage. Award-winning Gen Z poet Moraa’s Beautiful Mess collects her reflections on love and living, and Kasaine's 3 Bolts from the Blue is a detective thriller.
From the authors:
“Cocktail from the Savannah about polygamy. When people talk about polygamy, they think the person practicing it is bad, which I find quite unfair. There are reasons why people practice polygamy.” Ciku Kimani-Mwaniki
“Whispers from Vera is a story that follows Vera, a Ugandan 29-year-old woman determined to have it all. She wants a husband, children, and an illustrious career.” Goretti Kyomuhendo
“A bolt from the blue is unexpected. In 3 Bolts from the Blue you get three twists you won’t see coming.” Lesalon Kasaine
“I first self-published Beautiful Mess in 2022. I write poems and short stories. Sometimes I’m a poet who couldn’t fit the story in a poem.” Scholastica Moraa.
The audiobooks, all produced in eKitabu’s Studio KSL, feature narrations by Diana Wangari and popular newscaster Bill Amira. At the launch, Sharon Wata from the Kenya Copyright Board shared insights with writers on copyright issues. We warmly thank our friend and mentor Denis Mucheru, head of the Alliance Française Library, for his advice and hospitality. On this journey, we are dedicated to the love of literature and a vibrant literary culture in Kenya and beyond that listens to, cherishes and celebrates authors’ original voices.
Warmest regards,
Will
