Dear Friends,

With heavy hearts, the eKitabu team in Kenya, Rwanda, Malawi, and US, and with partners, publishers, friends, teachers, families, learners and government leaders mourn the death of our dear colleague and friend, Mercy Musyoki, fondly called Mercy M at eKitabu. Mercy M joined eKitabu in February 2015. She was eKitabu’s Senior Manager, Marketing and Communications.

Mercy M’s personal warmth, her down-to-earth style, her sense of how to connect with people and her willingness to bear responsibility for many moving parts all enabled her to succeed and make all of us in eKitabu better—at building an African brand, better at building real relationships.

Mercy M brought love to eKitabu. She was a modern professional and a traditional woman in the roles she embodied. Mercy M was hardworking and she stayed focused on delivering programs to recognize and reward learners, teachers, families and publishers, and she championed the inclusion of persons with disabilities in eKitabu programs and events.

Mercy M loved her family. Her children Ian and Henry meant the world to her. She was a fighter and stayed positive throughout her breast cancer journey. She taught us the importance of self-care and teamwork in the office. She was jovial, loving, kind, friendly, and full of life. Her job was central to each department, lending a hand to every team member whenever needed. We will be forever grateful.

On our website, Mercy M wrote about herself: “I love working with kids! Engaging with partners through eKitabu programs while growing the eKitabu brand in Africa has brought me fulfillment.” She really loved her work and did it passionately. She also made the eKitabu team become a family. As we mourn her, we shall celebrate her and live to remember her forever in our hearts.

Warmest regards,

Will
