- Encourage Teachers of Mathematics and Sciences to integrate ICT in the teaching and learning of Mathematics and Sciences which will ultimately enhance the quality of teaching and learning and education in general and aid in the realization of vision 2030.
- Give Mathematics and Science teachers opportunities to reflect on how best to use technology to further education, and to express ideas in their own voices
- Develop and document best innovative classroom practice
- Promote lesson study at the school and county level
Eligibility
iTOYA
- Must be a TSC employed teacherMust be a TSC employed teacher
- Must have taught for at least three years under TSC
- Should have a subject mean score of 5.0 (C-) and above in 2018 KCSE results one of the teaching subjects
- Its open to teachers in all subjects
- Teachers with Special Needs are encouraged to participate
POYA
- Must be a TSC employed principal fully paid up members of KESSHA
- Served as a principal for at least three years
- Mean score of 5.0 (C-) and above in 2018 KCSE results
- Must have submitted books of accounts for the year 2018 for audit
- Principals with Special Needs are encouraged to participate
TOYA
- Must be a TSC employed teacher
- Must have taught for at least 3 years under TSC
- Have a subject mean score of 5.0 (C-) and above in 2018 KCSE results in one of the teaching subjects
- Teachers with Special Needs are encouraged to participate
Timeline
- Schools to identified their TOYA/iTOYA by March
- Sub-counties to identified their iTOYA/TOYA/POYA by March
- Counties to identified their iTOYA/TOYA/POYA by April
- Regions should have identified their iTOYA/TOYA /POYA by May
Verification
- Documents to be verified at each level and Certificate of Verification submitted to the next level.
- The Commission will carry out school visits to assess, verify and authenticate the evidence presented by the regional winners.
- Regional winners’ profiles to be submitted to KESSHA secretariat and TSC headquarters by May for publication.
Criteria
i-TOYA award
This is to be awarded to the best Mathematics and Science teachers in the country who develops and implements the best innovative ICT integrated lesson.
The nomination process of i-TOYA competition begins at school level then proceeds to sub-county, county, regional and finally to the national level At the school level, the school panel chaired by the Board of Management (BOM) will identify the best teacher in the ICT integration in the teaching/learning process. Specifically, the teacher should:
- Be a teacher of Mathematics and Sciences (Physics, Biology, and Chemistry).
- Have undergone at least one SMASE INSET.
- SMASE County trainers’ representatives are not eligible for the competition to avoid conflict of interest (County Trainers’ Representatives may take part in the nomination process at some level).
- Have an enrolment of at least 15 students in his/her subject
- Should have posted a good performance in KCSE in the subject of nomination for the last three years as described below
- Those teaching in a Sub County school should have achieved a mean grade of C
- Those teaching in a County/ Extra County school should have achieved a mean grade of B-
- Those teaching in National County school should have achieved a mean grade of B
OR
Value addition:
Alternatively, value addition may be considered based on the following:
- Improvement Index in KCSE for the last 3 years in the teaching subject.
- Preparation of the learners for ‘life- long learning’ e.g environmental conservation, waste management, water harvesting, etc.
